About TS4L

Welcome to Texas Sport for Life, a for-profit, social enterprise aimed at leading a statewide movement to develop and improve the fundamental movement skills and sports-specific athletic skills of all Texas youth athletes. We believe kids who properly develop their fundamental movement skills (FMS) and fundamental sport skills (FSS) are able to perform more confidently, competently and with more control in all sport and non-sport physical activities. Kids who learn and develop skills through participation in sports are better able read and understand a wide range of games rather than simply a single game (that is, they are more 'games literate'.) Kids with higher skill competence are more likely to participate in sports and recreational activities over a longer period of their lives.

In order to accomplish our mission Texas Sport For Life will:

Improve coach access to effective, evidenced-based teaching methods designed to develop fundamental movement skills, sport-specific skills and game understanding in young athletes.
Partner with youth sport organizations to promote and educate youth sport coaches in fundamental and sport-specific skills teaching methods.

Create a Texas Youth Coach Development Program to educate, certify and support youth sport coaches in Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) and Fundamental Sports Skills (FSS) Development and training.
Introduce the concept of Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) to Youth Sports Organizations and to the University Interscholastic League. LTAD is “an integrated, systematic and progressive approach for developing young people in and through sport.” Physical Literacy is the foundational concept of LTAD.

Meeting these goals will result in:

Improved coaching effectiveness for Texas youth sport coaches.
A higher percentage of recreational and competitive young athletes who perform better in sports.
A higher percentage of youth who are 'physically literate' and 'games literate' *.
A higher percentage of youth engaged in physical activity and sport for a longer period of time.

Kids are games literate if they:

(a) have knowledge and understanding that enables them to anticipate patterns of play
(b) possess technical and tactical skills to deploy appropriate and imaginative responses
(c) experience positive motivational states while helping facilitate motivation among others involved in the game.

Our Social Mission:

Our primary goal is to serve our social mission. The generation of profits is sought mainly for the purpose of fulfilling our social mission and to insure the long-term viability of the company.
